Rollover Crash

FLAGSTAFF (AP) - On a Sunday afternoon four people were sent to the hospital due to a three car accident. This accident occurred at the intersection of Butler Ave. and San Fransisco St. around 1 p.m.

The driver of the truck that rolled over was sent to Flagstaff Medical Center in serious condition. Everyone else suffered from minor injuries. The cause of this accident is still unknown and the names of the victims have not yet been released.

Nigerian man indicted in plot to blow up plane

A Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day was indicted Wednesday on charges including attempted murder and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction to kill nearly 300 people.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, was traveling from Amsterdam when he tried to destroy the plane by injecting chemicals into a package of pentrite explosive concealed in his underwear, authorities say.

The failed attack caused popping sounds and flames that passengers and crew rushed to extinguish.

The bomb was designed to detonate "at a time of his choosing," the grand jury's indictment said.

There is no specific mention of terrorism in the seven-page indictment, but President Barack Obama considers the incident an attempted strike against the United States by an affiliate of al-Qaida.

Abdulmutallab has told U.S. investigators he received training and instructions from al-Qaida operatives in Yemen. His father warned the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria that his son had drifted into extremism in Yemen, but that threat was never fully digested by the U.S. security apparatus.

Since the failed attack, airlines and the Transportation Security Administration have boosted security in airports in the U.S. and around the world. Obama has said the government had information that could have stopped Abdulmutallab, but intelligence agencies failed to connect the dots.

Abdulmutallab faces up to life in prison if convicted of attempting to use a bomb on the plane. He is being held at a federal prison in Milan, Mich., and a message seeking comment was left Wednesday with his lawyers, Miriam Siefer and Leroy Soles.

"This investigation is fast-paced, global and ongoing, and it has already yielded valuable intelligence that we will follow wherever it leads," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement. "Anyone we find responsible for this alleged attack will be brought to justice using every tool — military or judicial — available to our government."

Abdulmutallab will make his first appearance in federal court on Friday for an arraignment and a hearing to determine if he stays in custody.

"Short of actual murder, these are some of the most serious charges in the criminal code," said Lloyd Meyer, a former terrorism prosecutor at U.S. war crimes tribunals at the Guantanamo Bay prison. "These charges are tailored to the facts of what happened over the sky in Detroit."

Murder tied to drug deal

The Flagstaff man shot to death Dec. 23 at an apartment in Christmas Tree Estates told his roommates that he was involved in a drug deal gone bad just days before he was killed.

And police are now calling a "person of interest" in the case a "suspect."

Kazuhiko M. Wilson, 20, has yet to be charged in connection with the shooting as police investigators continue their investigation.

The body of Zachary Patrick Morgan, 21, was found by roommates in the early morning hours. He had been shot.

Investigators served search warrants on the home where Morgan lived, where Wilson lived, Wilson's vehicle and a vehicle belonging to a roommate of Morgan.

According to search warrant affidavits filed in Flagstaff Justice Court, Wilson and Morgan were known for buying and selling drugs. Metro anti-narcotics agents, upon hearing the name and description of Wilson -- whose nickname is "Hiko" -- and that he was the last person to be with Morgan, went straight to the home where Wilson lived to find him.

"We were put onto Hiko by a young female heroin dealer we arrested," said Sgt. Ryan Beckman of Metro. "She reported to us that Hiko was one of the more significant heroin dealers in Flagstaff and someone she regularly purchased from."

For the last three months, Beckman said agents began putting a case together on Wilson, which included lists of people he associated with, locations he visited, vehicles he drove and more.

After Wilson left his home on the 5300 block of Boulder Run Drive, Metro agents had a police officer pull over Wilson on Butler Avenue a short time later. Police said they found less than 2 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale in the car, and Wilson was arrested on drug-sale and transportation charges. He has pleaded innocent to the charges.

At the time of his arrest, he told police he was an intravenous drug user and was coming down from a high. Also at the time of his arrest, Wilson was facing marijuana possession and weapons misconduct charges in Coconino County Superior Court.

Police officials called Wilson a "person of interest" in the first days after the homicide. And on Tuesday, officials called Wilson a suspect in the homicide.

"Police detectives are working closely with the Coconino County Attorney's Office, and formal charges are forthcoming," stated Sgt. Michael Terrin in a press release.

Roommates of Morgan, who declined to be identified, said that Morgan and Wilson, 20, had been friends and were both intravenous heroin users.

Because of the heroin use, the roommates banded together and asked Morgan to move out. Morgan was in the process of finding other lodging when he was killed. At the time of his death, Morgan was also facing drug-related charges out of Maricopa County.

Roommates said that just prior to Morgan being shot, he stated that he had been involved in a drug deal gone bad. And according to the search warrant affidavits, investigators also learned that Morgan had said he robbed somebody of a large amount of drugs.

During searches of the apartment where Morgan lived, police found hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia in Morgan's room. Investigators also seized two 9 mm shell casings from near the body.

A search of the home where Wilson was staying turned up more heroin drug paraphernalia, small amounts of drugs, cash and a 9 mm handgun.

The handgun is currently undergoing testing to determine if it was the weapon involved in the homicide, according to police officials.

Morgan's death marks the second shooting death in as many years in Flagstaff involving young people and drug dealing.

In July 2008, Justin Jackson, 16, was shot in the back of the head at a remote location off Woody Mountain Road after he had taken drugs from and beaten 17-year-old Micah Neumann. He had been lured to the spot under the pretense of a drug deal.

Neumann and co-defendant Jesse Collier, 18 at the time, have pleaded guilty to lesser charges and have agreed to testify against Benjamin Hamilton, also 18 at the time. The trial is scheduled for August.

Wilson is being held in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. The investigation into Morgan's death continues.

Child abuse charges for Navajo Nation couple

A Tuba City couple has been federally charged with child abuse in connection with several incidents involving a young girl in their care over a three-year period.

According to information from the U.S. Attorney's office in Flagstaff, medical staff at Phoenix Children's Hospital notified federal investigators they had a young girl who had been a victim of child abuse and torture. The child had broken ribs, fractured pelvis, broken leg, multiple abrasions and bruises over her entire body, blood spot in left eye, missing nasal septum with blood in both nostrils, all upper teeth missing, ulcers to back, head and neck, multiple healing scabs, head lice and clumps of hair missing from her head.

Investigators interviewed the woman of the couple who had become guardians of the girl. She issued voluntary statements as to the physical abuse her spouse had inflicted with slaps, belts pliers and steel-toed boots.

According to investigator reports, when confronted, the man told investigators, "I did it. I did all of it."

The man was charged with one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of intentionally or knowingly causing a person to suffer serious physical injury.

The woman was charged with one count of intentionally or knowingly placing a person in a position where her health was endangered.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Caught Parking Porsche Illegally

Just last month, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver, was caught parking her Cadillac Escalade in an illegal red zone in Santa Monica, weeks after publicly apologizing for using her cellphone while driving. Now it seems her husband has the same bad parking habits.

Yesterday, TMZ posted photos of the Governernator himself getting into a silver convertible Porsche in a red zone. It appears that he avoided a ticket (usually $90 for this particular violation).

On Tuesday, the governor said that his weekend parking mistake shows “no one is perfect—not even me.”

Interestingly, just last night Schwarzenegger appeared on "The Jay Leno Show," where he participated in Leno's running "Green Car Challenge" segment. The governor spent the first part of the segment talking about his commitment to promoting green cars (a category which definitely does not include Porsches), and became noticeably hesitant when Leno asked him how long it's been since he's gotten a speeding ticket. "Not in the last six years," Schwarzenegger said, which is the amount of time he's been governor. Good thing Jay didn't ask about parking tickets!

Jay and Arnold then moved on to a gag that involved Arnold challenging Jay to a race and then "blowing up" his car with a bazooka:
